'tis the season

its that time of year again.
we have been driving around the streets rummaging through bulk garbage piles and bringing home so many treasures/garbage. we have giant mounds of soil in our driveway, and we can't park in the garage because we have numerous projects going in there (and this is peak hoarding season for all of my junk). i just barely took our easter baskets away from the fireplace two days ago. there has been a dresser on its side blocking our entry way for a month. the side of our garage has actually filled up with junk this time. there is no more space for 'someday projects'.
we have about thirty five projects going at once though, meaning they have all been ripped apart, but we haven't finished any of them.

i keep going to work wearing a skirt with stain splashed on my legs, paint on my feet, and tape measures in my purse.

bees, shelving unit, hall lights, fence tear down, deck built, fountain fixed, fence posts poured, tree ripped out, tree planted, ground leveled, stones laid, garden box, herb box, outdoor lighting, sprinkler fix, gutter fix, curbing fix. awning built, curtains sewn, steel welded, clean side of garage, clean garage, finish screwing bed bolts together, screw shelf flange into wall, re-drill wood hole for shelf, build workshop wall, figure out where to turn out the light in the bomb shelter that has been on for a year....these are all things that we are in the middle of right now.

when i tell people we are busy with projects outside they always say "like weeding and stuff?" i laugh. i haven't weeded once. someday i hope my projects will be that simple.
we have finished so many big and small things, but somehow after a year of living here our bathroom door still doesn't shut. there is only one bathroom upstairs, and the door doesn't shut all the way. it also doesn't help that the toilet is right next to the door, and the door is in the main hallway. sorry if you are one of the people who have been stuck in my bathroom, walked in on, or peeped on by someone walking past the door. there are too many of you.

i might be complaining, but i love these projects.
we have however, done far too many in the last year.
for some reason i still think we need to just "power through" them and then we will live happily ever after. i know that is not true, these things never end. "but if we could just get things where we want them it will all be maintenance." i say this all the time too, but I also know this is not true.

my birthday wish this year was to stay home ALL weekend and just do projects sunrise to sunset, finishing up a few things that really needed to get done. david's upcoming birthday wish is to stay home all weekend and go to movies, NOT doing any projects. He is pretty burnt out. (but even he will tell you that once he gets the swing of the axe or the hang of the chainsaw, he loves these projects too)

but we are getting there,

we have fixed most of the huge things that we wanted to change, and now it is finishing them up and working on the smaller ones.

here is one project that we are almost done with.
a wall shelving unit built out of galvanized pipe for our bedroom, inspired by one we saw online, which was inspired by one at the Ace hotel. i haven't really arranged it with the stuff that will be up there yet, but here it is so far.

those are davids baby shoes, i love them. our bedroom is one place we hadn't really focused on, and we never really felt like it was ours. but now it is getting there...

also, a small afternoon project was these herb planters. i wanted my herbs to be separate from the vegs this year. i think they like it here. it has a smaller friend that is almost finished.
