wild jordan

jordan shocked me. i never expected to fall in love with jordan, but i did. i guess i had let all of the history of hardships of the area and the people here make me think that it was going to feel a bit trodden down, heavy, and tired here. no doubt there are still issues, but jordan is an incredibly cheerful place. we instantly fell in love with amman and the people here. i think i have said this about every region we have visited on this trip...but i think jordan takes the cake for friendliest, most sincere people we have met so far.

we arrived in town at sunset, pretty much guaranteeing that we would see the city in a favorable way for the rest of our time there. the city is built on several hills, so the city scape is rolling mounds of buildings that are mostly white. it reminded me of moulay idris, the cityscape looked like it belonged there, blending so naturally into the landscape. we were there for a rare torrential downpour of rain that flooded down the hills and build reservoirs in the valleys of the city.

the jordanian people are so warm and welcoming. they greet you with a "Welcome to Jordan!". if they don't open the conversation with it they will throw it in halfway through, or at the end. they have an eye color that puts you in a trans. it is a foggy blue-brown that really hypnotizes you when you. it is gorgeous.

this building is the wild jordan center in amman. it is a center that promotes ecotourism, and protection of jordan's natural resources and reserves. isn't the design incredible? it sort of floats near the top of one of the hills. i wanted to move in. we came here to eat and i had to spend a half an hour walking around soaking it all in before i could even concentrate on my food. here is an article about the architect.
