petra's landscape felt so similar to southern utah, we felt at home. wandering through the valleys of rock and then coming upon the tombs was such an incredible experience. the people that re-discovered petra must have pinched themselves when they found it because it is unreal. i can't comprehend how bizarre it must have been to just stumble upon it. one thing that we really enjoyed was not being able to tell which parts were carved, and which parts were natural, the tombs blend into the landscape so naturally.
