these are the karak and shoubak crusader castles in jordan. it was pretty fun to be able to visit castles that i have been studying the seiges of. saladin led attacks on both of these castles. here i am in the last picture fighting them off with my rebar bow and arrow. the nice thing about these castles is that there are no tours that stop there, no security guards, or ticket stannds. so we could wander around as we pleased, venture through the dark water wells, and clamber to the top of the look out points. there were still carved stone canon balls sitting around in heaps, by the edges of the towers. i wish i could have snuck one out, i want piles of them in my garden for weeds to grow around.
