Oh, halloween. I painted myself a unibrow and became Frida Kahlo. David was a Diego Rivera with a parrot head that he crocheted himself.

To continue our "Summer of Sigur" We flew to San Francisco to see them again. San Fran brought us the usual joys of going to the MOMA, Haight and Ashbury and of course Scraps. Scraps is this garbage store out in the industrial area, it is almost the last bus stop. They accept donations of things like paper, fabric, pencils, slides, glass bits, wooden chunks, spools, buckles, books, etc. etc.. Shopping there consists of getting a bag, digging through dirty barrels, then negotiating a price with the lady by the cats at the front desk. San Francisco is fun for us because it was sort of the first real trip we went on together, two years ago.
Then we drove up the coast on the 101 all the way to Portland. It was soooo Long. I know you thought I was going to say it was soooo gorgeous, and it was; but it took us three full days to drive those windy roads. We decided to try our luck and pick up a couple of hitch hikers along the way too. They were about our age, and one of them smelled bad. But it was fun, and we will probably do it again. We saw Sigur Ros again in Portland, and we also fell in love with the city. Except the part where their grid system splits right in the middle of downtown, and goes all wonky.
If you have never been to Portland, we highly recommend saving an entire day to spend at Powells Book store. It is an entire block in size, it has seven floors filled to the ceiling with every book you can imagine in its new, used, and vintage forms. My favorite parts of Powells are the 'banned books' bookshelf, and the 'Books Most Commonly Stolen from Powells Books' book shelf. Of course 90% of the books on the self were either about growing pot or body art. (This case was also a glass one that was locked).
These last two are photos of the Sigur Ros concert in SF. It was an outdoor theater on Berkeley campus. We saw them when they came to Salt Lake too.
We got our hands on some tickets to see Radiohead tickets Santa Barbara. So we planned a last minute weekender and went out there in July. It is tied in first for the best live performance yet. Santa Barbara has some great antique stores. Then we drove down to San Diego and stayed with Luke and Brenda, we always love the Hoffman Hotel. But this time there were no mints on our pillow, because we just dropped in on them.

In August we borrowed my mom's mini van and loaded it up with friends to go river rafting in Jackson Hole. Our friend Brad worked there over the summer so we paid him a visit. We had a great time rafting, rock climbing, art festivaling, dutch ovening and loud campfire singing.

Sarah, you make a great Frida Kahlo. And remember, that's not just anyone saying that, this is coming from a guy who has a Master's degree in Spanish. Sure, I focus more on Seventeenth-Century Peninsular Spanish, but I think I still have more to say about Frida Kahlo that your average José.
P.S. David also makes a great . . . um, Gonzo. Alisa assures me he was going for Gonzo. Great job David, you nailed it!
