rainier cherries

My whole life until last year i have questioned whether or not i like cherries. they would tempt me to try them, but then they were too overwhelming and i would convince myself that i do not like them for a year or so before i would try them again. and again i would decide that i do not like them.

but-
these are some film photos from last year in jackson hole when we bought rainier cherries from the farmer's market, and rented a little tin fishin' boat to putter around the lake with. It was a perfect summer day that was made even better with good company, a dip in the lake, and the discovery that i actually love rainier cherries. It made me want to do two things. 1. buy an old fishing boat (we did). 2. plant a cherry tree (we will).

something about the whole process of eating a cherry feels so nostalgic even though i have only been a cherry-eater for a year. it is so ritualistic. the stem, the pit, and the summer activities you do while you are eating them.

today was an echo in my memory to that day last year. we just got back in town so it felt really good to wake up in our own bed. we did yard work, spent the afternoon at a family event, and then just the two of us rode our bikes to the park to watch fireworks and eat some rainier cherries.
